Nappies
Organic Cotton Nappies
Save Money with eco friendly reusable nappies
Its a brave new world when you first have a baby. Breasts fountaining milk at inopportune moments, endless sleepless nights, not to mention oodles and oodles of baby poo.
Our grandmothers and most of our mothers didnt bat an eyelid at the endless terry towelling squares. These days however, cotton nappies are a choice that you need to make. If youre remotely green - if you recycle, if you buy organic, if you try to live a sustainable lifestyle, then happily, using eco friendly cotton nappies is a pretty straightforward choice.
How to Choose Cotton Nappies
But which cloth nappies to choose? There are all sorts out there (were pretty sure weve tried them all!). Some people like the old-school terry towelling squares, which are high on the happy nappy nostalgia factor, but do require a certain amount of origami skill. Then there are a multitude of shaped cloth and cotton nappies. The simplest of these are basically T-shaped and fasten sumo-wrestler-style with a nipper gripper at the front. Nipper grippers are the modern equivalent of those big old nappy pins. Finally, there are a wide range of poppered cotton nappies, ranging from the simple to the spectacularly complex.
No matter how many days or weeks youve been changing nappies now, youll know that in the face of a wriggly, potentially chilly, high-wee-risk situation, the last thing you want to reach for in your nappy bag is something complicated. That narrows down the field considerably.
The next consideration is what your tiny, but assertive and clear-minded little person is going to think of the cotton nappy youve wrapped around their bottom. It needs to be comfortable. Youll find theyre likely to say a resounding NO! (were translating here, obviously) to plastic wraps with any scratchy seams or unforgiving tight bits.
The next thing on the agenda is leaks. Were talking explosive, up-to-the-collar, bright orange baby poo style leaks. Sooner or later, its going to happen. But better to make sure its a rarity rather than an everyday occurrence. And thats mainly down to finding a shape and size of nappy that fits really well around your babys legs and waist. Not tight enough to make pink marks, but snug enough to prevent leaks.
Eco Friendly Bamboo Nappies
Here at DamTam, we think that itti bitti dlish bamboo nappies are the best thing since lanolin nipple cream. They are cosy, comfy, colourful, easy to put on (colour coded poppers, thank you, you clever designers!), fit well, rarely leak, have removable booster pads for night-time wear or swift changes theyre just great! All around better for your baby and the best choice for you. They are made of super-absorbent bamboo on the inside. They are a slight departure from our usual line, because the outer fleece is synthetic to keep the moisture inside (but then so are plastic nappy wraps...), they are a fantastic choice of eco-friendly nappies. They come in a whole range of extrovert jewel-like colours and so far, every single customer who has bought one from the site has come back a week or so later and bought a whole drawer more.
